Old T-Shirt Quilt Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Old T-Shirt Quilt or a T-Shirt Memory Quilt?
A T-Shirt Memory Quilt, sometimes called an Old T-Shirt Quilt, is a cherished creation made by transforming your well-loved t-shirts into a cozy and meaningful quilt. Instead of storing your old t-shirts in boxes or parting with them, our skilled artisans expertly craft them into a beautiful patchwork quilt that preserves your memories in a tangible and functional way.
How are Old T-Shirt Quilts made?
Creating an Old T-Shirt Quilt involves a meticulous process. Our talented team carefully cuts and sews your t-shirts into squares or rectangles, ensuring that important logos, motifs, or designs are showcased. These individual pieces are then thoughtfully arranged and sewn together, forming a unique quilt that tells your personal story.
I don't know much about quilting. Can I talk to someone before I order?
Do you make T-Shirt Quilts or T-Shirt Blankets?
A true quilt consists of three layers:
- Top Layer – The top layer is the T-Shirt. We use the highest quality 100% cotton interfacing to stabilize the t-shirts so that they last a lifetime. We don’t use the stiff cheap polyester stuff that some other companies use.
- Middle Layer – The middle of the quilt is the batting. We use Legacy 80/20 Blend or HOBBS Heirloom® Premium cotton blend batting. Both are 80% unbleached cotton & 20% polyester.
- Bottom Layer – For our bottom layer we use professional quilt shop quality fabrics. These are softer, smoother, and have a tighter weave so your quilt will last longer.
The layers are sewn together with a stitching pattern so that everything stays together as it should. This stitching is called quilting. Quilts should have a border fabric and the edges are bound using a binding fabric.
We are in the business of making quality quilts that are made to be used, loved and laundered for a lifetime. We promise you won’t be disappointed.
How long does it take to get my T-Shirt Memory Quilt?
We will include deadlines on this web site when appropriate. If you need your quilt by a certain date, please let us know when ordering. Rush delivery is available for an additional cost. If you need a quilt for a special occasion such as an anniversary, graduation, Christmas, etc. please allow plenty of time so that you won’t be disappointed.
What if I want to use the front and back of a t-shirt?
Do I get my T-Shirts back?
Do you make two-sided T-Shirt quilts?
Please note that double-sided quilts are heavier than single-sided quilts. Also, when the quilt is on your bed you also won’t be able to see half the T-Shirt blocks since they will be on the other side. For these reasons, most clients prefer single-sided quilts.
How do I order a T-Shirt Memory Quilt?
I live in the Houston area. Can I just bring my T-Shirts to you rather than shipping them?
What about the color of fabric used?
If you are in the Northwest Houston area, you are more than welcome to visit our studio and make your fabric choices from the fabrics we carry in stock. Contact us to schedule an appointment.
What do I have to do with my t-shirts before I send them to you?
The shirts should be laundered before being sent to us (including brand new shirts). Just remember that stains on the shirts will show on the quilt. Stains are NOT necessarily a bad thing. Usually, that just means that the shirt was well loved. That’s why many call these an “old t-shirt quilt”. Please send the shirts intact and we will cut the graphic out making sure that the graphic is centered as much as possible.
If front and back of a shirt are to be used, please make a note and attach it (“sticky notes” sometimes come off during shipping!) to the shirt. Painters Tape or Masking Tape works best and is easiest for us to work with. Each graphic will count as one block (i.e., if a shirt has graphics on both the front and back that will represent two blocks, it will count as 2 blocks). Also, don’t forget about the smaller graphics on the pockets and sleeves. We can combine several of them together to make one block.**
**Additional charges apply. See our Pricing page for details
Can more than one graphic (i.e. pocket or sleeve logos) be used to make a block?
