Mosaic vs. Sashing T-Shirt Quilts

by | Jan 18, 2018

T-Shirt Memory Quilts offers 2 styles of quilts – Mosaic style and Sashing style.  When choosing the style you want, please consider the following traits of each.
Mosaic vs. Sashing T-Shirt Quilts

Mosaic Style

The Mosaic style quilt is made without sashing. It is a modern twist on the traditional quilt. The T-shirts are cut in a variety of sizes of rectangles and squares. The pieces are sewn together…shirt next to shirt next to shirt. This is an ideal choice if you have a wide variety of shirt colors and if you have many pieces. When compared to the sashing design, this is the less expensive option. Mosaic designs can also accommodate a greater number of blocks than a sashing design.

Sashing Style

The Sashing style has strips of fabric placed between the rows and columns of T-Shirt blocks for a more traditional style quilt. All shirt pieces are cut the same size. Strips of fabric are sewn between the shirts. Sashing adds color, width, and length to your quilt. This is an ideal choice if many of your shirts are the same color or if you have a small number of shirts. Of the two styles, this is the more expensive option due to the added labor and fabric costs.
